My therapeutic practice is dedicated to helping people find deeper meaning, connection, and authenticity in life. By managing and tolerating uncomfortable emotions, we can live intentionally, in accordance with our value systems. Utilizing the Eastern traditions of mindfulness and the Western traditions of cognitive-behavior therapy, my goal is to help people view times of stress and transition as the unprecedented opportunities for growth that they actually present.
Dr. Dwyer received an MS in 1995 and Ph.D. in 1999 in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, and a B.A. in psychology from Fairfield University. She has been licensed as a psychologist in the state of Colorado beginning in 2001. Dr. Dwyer has work experience in inpatient, outpatient, and school settings. She is a professional member of the American Anxiety Disorders Association. As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, Dr. Dwyer assists her patients in understanding the connection between thoughts, behavior, and mood. By evaluating the impact of negative thought patterns and/or less desirable behavior choices, patients are assisted in making changes that result in progress towards their goals. Incorporating techniques of mindfulness and acceptance, patients also learn skills to tolerate uncomfortable emotional states and better regulate emotions. Dr. Dwyer has extensive experience in school psychology and learning disability evaluations, and brings her background of working in a school setting into play when completing learning evaluations, devising classroom accommodations, and working with teachers, students, and parents.
